These Rules explain a Customer's responsibilities when contacting or hiring a Provider found through JustList and how to handle a problem with Provider work. They supplement the JustList Terms of Service and User Safety Guidelines.
1. JustList is not the service contractor
JustList publishes service listings and provides discovery, communications, reviews, moderation, and related Platform tools. Providers are independent third parties. JustList does not hire, dispatch, supervise, insure, or guarantee Providers; inspect job sites; set the service price; make the service contract; or process payment for Provider work.
A listing, ranking, review, badge, message, contact reveal, subscription, or sponsored placement is not a warranty or recommendation that a Provider is suitable for a particular project.
2. Check before hiring
- Confirm the Provider's legal name, business name, physical contact information, references, and relevant experience.
- Verify required licenses directly with the issuing government authority and confirm that the name, classification, jurisdiction, status, and expiration cover the project.
- Ask for current insurance and confirm coverage with the insurer or agent when the risk warrants it.
- Determine who will enter the property and whether employees, helpers, or subcontractors will perform the work.
- Compare written estimates and be cautious of pressure, extreme discounts, large cash deposits, vague scope, guaranteed outcomes, or requests for credentials and one-time codes.
3. Use a direct written agreement
The Customer and Provider should sign their own written agreement before meaningful work begins. It should cover the parties, property, exact scope and exclusions, materials, permits, schedule, price, taxes, deposit, milestones, change orders, cleanup, cancellation, warranties, insurance, photos, lien rights, and dispute procedure. JustList is not a party to that agreement.
Do not rely on a listing or Platform message as the complete service contract. Do not assume a quote is fixed unless the Provider clearly says so and applicable terms are written.
4. Payment for Provider work
Customers pay Providers outside JustList using a method they choose. JustList does not hold deposits, release funds, protect the payment, issue a Provider refund, or provide escrow, insurance, chargeback rights, a money-back guarantee, or a property-damage guarantee.
A Stripe charge from JustList is for a JustList subscription, listing feature, or promotion—not the Provider's work. Never send a Provider a password, bank login, card number, government identifier, or one-time verification code through Platform messages.
5. Jobsite and personal safety
- Tell another trusted person when a Provider will visit and avoid being alone when the circumstances create concern.
- Secure valuables, private documents, medications, weapons, access codes, and areas unrelated to the work.
- Disclose known hazards, animals, utilities, structural risks, and site rules relevant to safe performance.
- Do not permit work that appears unlawful, outside the Provider's credentialed scope, or immediately dangerous.
- For an emergency or immediate threat, leave the area when safe and call 911. JustList is not an emergency service.
6. If work is damaged, defective, delayed, or incomplete
- Take reasonable steps to prevent additional injury or property damage. Use emergency or licensed remediation services when necessary.
- Preserve the listing, messages, written agreement, estimates, invoices, payment records, photos, video, permits, inspection results, and a dated description of what happened.
- Notify the Provider in writing, identify the problem, and request the remedy available under the direct agreement or law.
- When appropriate, contact the Provider's insurer, licensing board, permit or inspection authority, consumer-protection agency, law enforcement, payment provider, or your own insurer.
- If unresolved, consider a licensed attorney, mediation, arbitration required by the direct agreement, small-claims court, or other court with jurisdiction.
Claims about plumbing or other property damage, workmanship, injury, nonperformance, overcharging, refunds, rework, cleanup, or warranties must be pursued against the responsible Provider, Customer, insurer, or other third party—not JustList.
7. What to report to JustList
Report suspected fraud, threats, violence, theft, identity misuse, false credentials, review manipulation, serious safety conduct, or another Platform-policy violation to [email protected]. Include the listing or account, dates, a concise description, and relevant Platform evidence. Do not send highly sensitive records unless requested through a secure method.
JustList may investigate Platform conduct, preserve records, warn users, remove content, restrict an account, or cooperate with valid legal process. JustList does not determine legal fault, inspect or value damage, order a Provider to pay or return money, enforce a service warranty, or act as the parties' court, insurer, or collection agency.
8. Reviews
A review must describe an honest first-hand experience and comply with the Reviews and Content Policy. Focus on facts you can support. Do not publish private information, threats, extortion demands, irrelevant accusations, or content prohibited by law. A dispute or threatened claim does not automatically prevent an honest review.
9. Contact
Platform support: [email protected]. Safety and policy reports: [email protected]. Legal process concerning your own dispute should be directed to the responsible party and the appropriate authority or tribunal. JustList cannot give legal advice.
